Compromise or Capitulation

Compromise or Capitulation: The Challenge of Creating Unity

[Tractate Rosh Hashana]

As leaders, educators, and visionaries, we are often asked to make decisions that will effect a group of people and will serve as policy for a given institution.  These decisions, despite the depth of thoughts we infuse in them and the degree to which we seek to compromise, can often leave someone or some group unsatisfied.  In this workshop we will address the challenges of creating policy or setting standards in situations when there is disagreement and difference of opinion.  We will look to a pivotal interaction between Rabbi Yehoshua and Rabban Gamliel in which they struggled with this exact challenge.   We will delve into this topic through movement exploration, personal reflection and Jewish text study.
